'Small Places, Great Hearts'
Highlights from 8 short films on refugee inclusion in European municipalities
ICMC Europe & the SHARE Network proudly present a European video featuring the highlights of the SHARE video series 'Small Places, Great Hearts' - eight short films about refugee inclusion in small cities that were produced by SHARE partners Caritas Austria in Ganserdorf (pop. of 11.404 in Lower Austria), Caritas International in Merchtem (pop. of 15.053 in Flemish Brabant), Forum Réfugiés in Montrottier (pop. of 1.392 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), Consorzio Communitas in Biella (pop. of 44.324 in Piemont), MigrAfrica in Jena (pop. of 110.000 in Thuringen), Dutch Council for Refugees in Zaandam (pop. of 76.804 in Nordholland), JRS Portugal in Caranguejeira (pop. of 4.691in ditrict of Leiria) and JRS Romania Șomcuta Mare (pop. of 7.565 in Maramureș).
The series aims to portray local success stories in eight different contexts that were characterized by positive experiences for both the newly arrived refugees and the host communities. The stories feature refugees that came through legal pathways: resettlement, relocation or private sponsorship. The EU video showcases that "on the ground", at local level, the type of mechanism a person has used to access safety, does not make a difference for their social inclusion - the same processes need to be in place for successful integration outcomes: different actors need to communicate, partner and work together.
